Dealing with the Consequences of War



Dr. Peter Ziarnowski speaks with the press after his presentation to GRCC's Dealing with the Hidden Coinsequences of War on September 22, 2005. Peter is the Director of the Rochester Vet Center, an independent center to assist returning veterans and their families in coping with the aftermath of service in wartime.

Dealing With the Hidden Consequences of War - Sept. 22, 2005

Twenty-two people were in attendance for this program presented by Dr. Peter Ziarnowski, and Mary Anne Vitticore from the Rochester's Vet Center. Some comments that were made:

    "We all bear the cognitive dissonance of war from our country, for in some way, we all participate." This statement was made about the fact we pay taxes, we recycle metals that are made into war items, we pray but cannot stop war.
    "I don't want to hear…. 'we sent them…' I didn't send anyone to war!"
    >"I didn't want to be there… but God's hands were carrying me." Vietnam Vet.
    "Women soldiers have 10 % more post traumatic symptoms than men, as they are carrying a burden of being female in what is perceived as a male war, especially in Iraq."
